Hemiplegia, Hemiparesis, or Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy

Stroke causes children to have hemiplegia, hemiparesis, or hemiplegic cerebral palsy.

Hemiplegia means paralysis is on one side of the body.  Hemiparesis, means weakness on one side of the body.

Cameron's stroke was on the left side of the brain resulting in right side weakness.

Children with Hemiplegia may have some or all of these symptoms (each child is different and special)

  1. Little use of one hand, arm, leg
  2. Gait Problems, limping
  3. Speech delay, articulation problems and language difficulties
  4. Seizures
  5. Lack of control on the affected side
  6. Learning Difficulties or Differences
  7. Sensory Problems
  8. Behavior Issues
  9. Excessive drooling past the infant stage
